The Southern Costa Blanca and Costa Calida enjoy one of
the most idyllic climates on the planet! One of
the only places in mainland Europe to enjoy mild winters and
warm to hot summers with around 300 sunny days per year. Only a
2 - 3 hours flight from most UK and northern European airports,
this region will always be attractive to people wishing to find
a place in the sun.
Sunlight & Vitamin D.
According to research, exposure to
sunlight is known to be beneficial to the body and mind by
stimulating the body's natural production of vitamin D. This
very important vitamin can be found in very small amounts in some foods and northern Europeans may significantly be
deficient, particularly in winter months. Vitamin D
also has a natural anti-depressant effect by stimulating the
production of serotonin also the important role of
metabolising Calcium to be properly used by the body.
Some researchers suggests that exposure to strong sunlight
can cause skin cancer. Sun
blocks can minimise the effects of the sun BUT
reduce the creation of vitamin D in the body. Sun
blocks may also also cause adverse effects to our long
term health by absorbsion of toxins and chemicals such
as
titanium dioxide a white pigment used in
many products including paint ! With this in mind, moderation
maybe a safer approach and avoid
long periods of exposure to strong sunlight, especially between
10:00 and 18:00 in the summer months.
