One of the only
places in the whole of mainland Europe where you'll enjoy mild
winters and warm to hot summers. Only a 2 - 3 hours flight from
most UK airports, this region will always be attractive to
people wishing to find their place in the sun. The Costa Blanca
South and The Costa Calida enjoy very similar weather patterns.
With around 300 sunny days a year, no wonder many northern
Europeans are moving out permanently in or buying themselves a
bolt hole in the sun.
Sunlight & Vitamin D.
According to research, exposure to
sunlight is known to be beneficial to the body and mind by
stimulating the body's natural production of vitamin D.
Vitamin D can be found in some foods but at quite low levels. It
also has a natural anti-depressant effect by stimulating the
production of serotonin as well as the very important role of
metabolising Calcium to be properly used by the body. Some researchers have suggested that exposure to strong sunlight
can cause skin cancer. Sun
block creams and oils by definition minimise the creation
of vitamin D in the body and may also also cause adverse effects
to our long term health from the toxins and chemicals used in
many products. Moderation may be the better approach and avoid
long periods of exposure to strong sunlight, especially between
10:00 and 18:00 in the summer months.
